The Department of Transportation at Univ. of Maryland has decided that instead of walking around and giving everyone tickets for illegally parking, they wil do so electronically. Since everyone who buys a parking permit is assigned to a certain lot, the parking officials have to drive around, get out of their cars and literally check to see if the correct tag is hanging in the window.
HOWEVER, there’s a new technology allowing a camera to be placed on top of a DOTS track and just scan the license plates. As soon as it finds a car that isn’t registered to that lot, they can give it a ticket. But the thing is, what about people who borrow their friends’ parking permits?
They SAY it will help track stolen vehicles but….I seriously doubt it. It’s just a way for them to be lazy and get more money. There are MANY potential kinks in the system and the our school is already plenty expensive. Do we REALLY need this?
